- Reduce strenuous outdoor activity when ozone levels are high
- When ozone levels are high, or when High Pollution Advisories (HPA) are in effect:
- Refuel your vehicle after dark (or during cooler, evening hours)
- Don’t use gas powered lawn equipment
- Delay your big painting project until the HPA is over (or use water based paints which have less VOC emissions.
- Drive less, reduce the number of trips you take in your car, use transit, carpool, walk, or bicycle whenever you can.
- Conserve electricity in your house.
- Make sure your car’s tires are properly inflated and your wheels are aligned. This helps your vehicle move more efficiently and ultimately, burn less gas and pollute less. (Plus, you’ll save money!)
- Talk to your employer and make arrangements to telecommute as often as you can.
- Replace your gasoline-powered lawn mower, trimmer, and blower with electric lawn equipment.
- Make sure that containers of household cleaners, garage and yard chemicals and other solvents are sealed properly to prevent vapors from evaporating into the air. Please make sure that you dispose of any empty containers properly and take advantage of your community’s household hazardous waste collection events.
- Visit www.sharetheride.com for more information on how to find a carpool or vanpool in your area.
